So You are Ready to Look for a House

Whether you are looking to upsize, downsize, or looking to buy a home for the very first time, there are steps that you can take to make looking for and purchasing a home go more smoothly.

Before starting your search it is important to know how you are going to finance. What type of loan do you qualify for? How much do you qualify for? Have you been pre-approved for a loan? If not, have you started the process? If you are just starting and unsure of how to answer the questions above it might help to talk with a qualified loan agent. If you already know who you want to go with, great! If not, I would be happy to share the contact information of local lenders who could help.

Once you have your financing in order take some time to determine what is most important in the house you buy. It can be helpful to make a list of all that you would like and then divide your list into “must haves” and “would like to haves.”If you are able to, drive by the different neighborhoods and take a look at the properties for sale. You may be able to eliminate some homes from your list by getting an outside visual. By taking a driving tour you also have the opportunity to scope out what is close by that matters to you. Do you want to be close to restaurants and shops? Away from it all? Near the beach? Taking a day or two to learn the areas you are interested in before you begin viewing homes can save you valuable time and effort later.

Once you have a good idea of what you would like in a home we can start viewing homes. We will work together to narrow your search down to the homes that best match your criteria and then I will schedule the showings. I will provide you with an itinerary of the day as well as helpful information about local services and inspectors. Because of Covid-19 protocols separate vehicles are advised. In addition, masks are required for all showings.

Once we are in the homes it is a good idea to refrain from chatting too much about what you like and what you don’t. Many homes these days have devices that can listen in and record who is in the house. In order to give you the best negotiating position it is best that the sellers not know too much of what you think ahead of time. After the showings we can discuss the pros and cons of the individual homes. Once you have found the right home I can help you by writing the offer and assisting you in navigating through the sales process.
