Living on the Siletz River is part of “Life On The Oregon Coast”. You don’t have to have an ocean view, hear the roar of the ocean or watch the coastal tides to be a part of the coastal living. As you leave Highway 101 south of Lincoln City and head up river on Highway 229 toward Siletz there are a number of little fishing communities. You will notice many of the homes have been elevated in order to escape the flood waters. About 3.5 miles up the river is a community called Ballard Acres. There are about 40 home sites in the development and there is a private boat ramp for easy access to the river. Many of the homes have their own docks which is very convenient way to launch your boat and then tie it up to the dock so your always ready to go fishing.
I just listed a little fishing cabin on the town of Siletz river located at 3747 S. Ballard Acres, Siletz, OR and while it is small and quaint, it is the perfect weekend get-away! The cozy living room has a wood burning fireplace, the kitchen is open and has enough cupboards and cabinets for kitchen supplies and tools to cook up a storm. The new deck extends the living area outside where you will enjoy watching the boats drift by with their poles in the water. The house has been elevated so when it does flood, well, just hose it out and you’re good until the next flood.
Flood prevention is always a good idea when you live on the river. The owners of this little cabin have installed shelves above the flood level where they keep firewood, camping gear and supplies. The extra refrigerator and washer and dryer are on a platforms to keep them from getting wet during a flood. The wood stove is a heat source when extra company arrives and pitches a tent or set up cots.
Sitting around the outdoor fire pit is the perfect place to be on summer nights where fish tales are told around the camp fire. The dock is 339 square feet and has a little fish cleaning station. There is room to park an RV with hook ups to the water and septic and room to park your boat trailer. For an affordable cabin on the river this is one you won’t want to miss.
